Lee County property appraiser Ken Wilkinson was happy with the news he shared with us on Friday……..”For the first time in 5 years, I have happy news about property values!” “After years of plummeting real estate values and tax revenues, it appears that the long nightmare is about over for Lee County, especially in Cape Coral.”
“Cape Corals estimated tax roll value increased by 3.5% in 2011, the biggest increase among the taxing authorities in Lee County.” The Cape leads the trend that we have bottomed out in prices, something we were all hoping would finally happen so we can start the road to recovery. When the property appraisers office released the news, City Council members stood up and cheered.
“Cape Coral is now worth more”……was the announcement.
This follows a trend for most of Lee County including Fort Myers. Unfortunately Lehigh Acres on the eastern portion of the county still remains in a depression of negative growth, still declining values, and a high jobless rates.
“The numbers are important because they not only mean home values have risen, it also means the Planning Depts. in each city can prepare budgets with projected higher revenues.” “It also signals potential fence-sitting homebuyers that its time to consider buying a home.” It may be time to get into the housing market, Ken stated.
Hal knows Ken Wilkinson going back to the 1980’s as a fellow gym member. Hal’s always thought of Ken as a conservative when making public comments and speech’s. He has a plain talk manner about him. This is really good news about the Fort Myers and Cape Coral areas! Come buy your “Dream” home now! And if your going to be needing a mortgage to buy that home call……………….
