After more than 15 years of talk and debate. After more than 25 years of discussion about the need for a facility for dogs and cats…and other pets of course…it appears that the wait is now over. Cape Coral has broken ground on its first ever animal shelter. Read more……
Its now official, Cape Coral now has broken ground for its very first animal shelter and its a non-profit venture for the owners. On November 1st, 2018, there was a ground breaking ceremony at the new site, which is just next door to “Sun Splash” water theme park on Santa Barbara Blvd. If your not familiar with the area, its just south of Hancock Bridge Parkway.
The shelter will be ready for ribbon cutting in the late summer of 2019. It will be an almost 8000 sq. ft. facility. Inside will be reception areas, medical treatment rooms, grooming stations, feeding areas, and a retail shop for pet items. It will also offer an adopt-a-pet area for animals looking for a new home.
The city aggressively wanted to have this facility, and offered a 99 year land lease for $1 per year, to get it started.
The exact address for the new shelter will be 325 SW 2nd Ave. Cape Coral.
It has been long overdue, and very welcomed by animal lovers in our growing community. It deserves community support!!
