Keep This a Secret……A Fun Sunday Destination on my Favorite Island

If your in the mood for great food…ice cold beer…live music…waterfront atmosphere…great service…and an island experience……come to this place, you will be glad you did! But I want to keep this place a secret, if the word gets out that its a great destination…the place will be over run with guests. What is it, and where is it….read more.

The where is the easiest part…..its Pine Island. The what is a restaurant biker bar called “The Ragged Ass Saloon.” Don’t ask me how the owners decided on the name?

Hal and I discovered the place in 2016, and vowed to return for more fun. It is situated in St. James City, which is the southern tip of the island. There are actually 3 restaurant/bar’s in St. James City, but the Ragged Ass Saloon is by far the one to visit. We arrived around 12:30 and picked a good spot in the covered outdoor section where we had great views of the band stand as well as the coming and going of boats along the canal.

The 1940’s built restaurant offers indoor seating…a long bar set-up…covered outdoor section…and an outdoor private umbrella section. The live music starts at 2 pm and lasts till around 5 or so. By 1 pm the seating anywhere gets scarce. There is dockage for several boats with waitress service right to your boat, and with views of the band stand.

The food was great. We had fresh beer battered fried white fish along with a huge basket of onion rings. We also tried the plump chicken wings, and some “Ragged Ass Red” beer. At about 1:30, the bikers began to show up for their Sunday bike club group ride. They play great music before and after the band plays, so something is always going on at the place.

The parking lot is ample, with street parking as well. It was a great way to enjoy a Sunday afternoon. Believe me its well worth the extra drive to enjoy this place. It certainly is on our list of favorite destinations. Come and enjoy, but don’t tell anyone else about the place…lets keep it to ourselves!
